As we know Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was initially released in August of 2020 without of course helicopters. It left a big hole to be filled in the rotary winged community. It also left a lot of questions to be answered. Like why ?
Jorg Nuemann (Head of MSFS) in a statement said “We want to get them right.”
In an interview between Sergio (editor of Helisimmer.com) and Jorg Nuemann. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuVlOMtyFVk&ab_channel=HeliSimmer.com Jorg confirms:
“We are going to have helicopters in November 2022.”
What default Helicopters are going to be added you might ask?
Jorg ensures these will be free default helicopters. “Every aircraft you see for the 40th Anniversary is free and we have more to add”.
What about Heli ports?
As you know planes use runways, but helicopters are superior in their ability to hover and land vertically in confined spaces. While major airports are reasonably easy to locate in the world, Microsoft Flight Simulator has done an astonishing job to cover most of them but the data is still coming in. Heli-ports pose a challenge just like bush airstrips; they are harder to locate and some are unknown or not that known.
With the addition of helicopters presents the challenges that come with them. But it’s only the start of what Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 has to offer. I’m happy to know Helicopters are on their way! and the rest I can wait for.
